For CowPR (UK) we built this campaign competition site which tracks the Kraken painted buses using Google Maps and the TFL open API. If you were able to spot a bus and take a snap you could win some awesome prizes. This was a quick turnaround site which was dedicated to mobile use and we pulled in some help from our trusty data platform Isivuno to track the buses.

"The kraken (/ˈkrɑːkən/)[1] is a legendary cephalopod-like sea monster of giant size in Scandinavian folklore. According to the Norse sagas, the kraken dwells off the coasts of Norway and Greenland and terrorizes nearby sailors. Authors over the years have postulated that the legend may have originated from sightings of giant squids that may grow to 13–15 meters (40–50 feet) in length." - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken)

The bus locations are updated every 30 seconds as per the restrictions of the TFL API. We used Google Maps and styled it using a dark theme to fit with the CI of Kraken Rum. The map would zoom to fit all buses currently en-route and then allow users to manipulate the map as they normally would.

It was important for this campaign to work on mobiles to allow game players to track the buses while on the move. A simple cascading responsive approach was used to design this site to fit and work across various mobile devices.

This is a very simple yet effective implementation of using creative technology to create an engaging experience when sourcing competition entries.
