The violence prevention through urban upgrades (VPUU) project is aimed at improving security for communities living in Khayelitsha, Western Cape South Africa. The project's main focus and approach is to empower members of the community to help achieve this. And the way this is done is by means of social innovation and tools.
It has been proven in research that infrastructure plays a big part in personal security, especially in areas where crime is very high. So being able to report and help with urban upgrades is vital in curbing crime. A broken street lamp is not just a broken street lamp any more. It becomes a hotspot for criminal activity. This app is there to assist in reporting these to VPUU so the necessary steps can be taken to fix it.
